[ARCHIVED] Red Tide Alert

Beach Warning Graphic

Beaches will remain closed until further notice.

IRC Red Tide Update for October 24, 2018

Indian River County is still experiencing red tide conditions and all beaches in Indian River County will remain closed until further notice.

The County’s marine debris removal contractor initiated debris removal on Saturday 10/20/2018 from Tracking Station Beach Park. The contractor anticipates being able to clean approximately 1 – 1 ½ miles per day, approximately 10-15,000 thousand pounds per day.  This will be a rolling operation Monday-Saturday and is expected to take approximately 20 days.  Anticipated work schedule maps can be found below.

Unlike the red tide impacts on the west coast of Florida, we have only seen fish so far and no other marine life has been observed.

The northeast wind today, expected to be 10-15 knots, could cause the red tide to linger longer along our coast.

Per the recommendation of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), we will be testing water samples twice weekly.

Please follow Emergency Operation Center (EOC) of Indian River County or for updates.

We would recommend that the public stay out of the water and if the odor causes any type of irritation the public should leave and head indoors. At this time we are waiting for a report from the Indian River County Health Department/ Fish and Wildlife Commission for updated information.
