Existing Noise Abatement Procedures
Vero Beach Municipal Airport has an established voluntary noise abatement program. The program, improved in
2002 through recommendations of the Ad Hoc committee, includes elements targeted at 2 primary types of airport
activity - flight operations and maintenance engine run-ups.
Currently there are seven (7) voluntary noise abatement procedures for aircraft operators:
- Jet aircraft are requested to use the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Noise Abatement Procedures
- Traffic using Runway 11R is requested to use a left traffic pattern when the tower is closed, thereby reducing the traffic over the noise sensitive areas
- Traffic using Runway 29L is requested to use a right traffic pattern when the tower is closed in order to reduce traffic over noise sensitive areas
- Propeller Aircraft are requested to use a traffic pattern altitude of 1,000 feet above ground level (AGL)
- Turboprop and Jet Aircraft are requested to use a traffic pattern altitude of 1,500 feet AGL
Hours during which Touch and Go Operations are permissible are as follows:
- 7:00 AM until 10:00 PM Local time on Monday- Saturday
- 12:00 PM until 10:00 PM local time on Sunday
Touch and Go Operations are not permissible on Sunday morning before 12:00 PM and after 10:00 PM everyday.
Maintenance Engine Run-Ups
Currently there are four (4) voluntary procedures for maintenance engine run-ups:
- All maintenance run-ups areas must be considered to ensure safety, practicality and the most community friendly.
- Maintenance run-ups should be performed at an established run-up area on the tenant’s leased property for no more than 15 to 20 minutes at a time.
- For extended run-ups or multiple run-ups proportionate to the 15 to 20 minute limit, run-ups shall be completed on the run-up area for Runway 22 or the run-up area for Runway 11R.
- Maintenance run-ups should be scheduled only between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM. In the event a maintenance run-up must be performed beyond the permitted hours, the run-ups should take place at the Runway areas referenced above.
These guidelines do not apply to normal, pre-flight engine run-ups. Pre-flight run-ups should continue to be accomplished in the designated run-up area at the departure runway referenced above. Noise abatement procedures are published on the Vero Beach Municipal Airport website and are distributed to all tenants of the airport. Additionally, the publications are distributed to all flight training schools in the area. Runways are marked with signs requesting each pilot to follow the local noise abatement policies.
