Solid Waste Division

Mission Statement

The mission of the Solid Waste Division is to protect the environment, public health and welfare, and enhance the quality of life by providing effective programs to collect and remove solid waste materials in a convenient, economical and environmentally sensitive manner.

Activities

Activities include: removal and disposal of all refuse accumulated inside the city limits which includes single family and multi-family residences as well as commercial businesses and other non-residential customers. Refuse collection and disposal services include: garbage, yard debris, appliances, furniture and other household items.

Recycling

The city monitors the residential recycling program provided by the county within the city limits. Recyclable materials are collected from non-residential customers and reported to Indian River County Solid Waste Disposal District; the materials collected from participants receiving this service are eligible for possible credits on their annual non-ad valorem assessment.

Lot Clearing Program

The division also assists in implementation of the city’s lot clearing program and related Code Enforcement activities.

Records

Records are maintained for appropriate utility billing.

RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS

The  City  of  Vero  Beach  normally  picks  up  garbage  from  residential  customers  twice  a week. When a normally scheduled pickup day falls on an observed holiday, trash from
residential customers is collected on the next scheduled day for pickup.
Residential garbage collection is not performed on the following holidays listed. Service
will resume on the NEXT SCHEDULED DAY FOR PICKUP.

For  example,  a  residential  customer  who  normally  has  their  garbage  collected  on
Tuesdays and Fridays would not have their garbage collected on Tuesday, July 4th, in
observance of Independence Day. Garbage for these customers will be collected on the
next scheduled pick up day which is Friday, July 7th. Customers whose garbage
is  normally  collected  on  Mondays  and  Thursdays  would  not  have  any  change  to  their
garbage collection for the Independence Day Holiday.

COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS WITH DUMPSTERS

The  City  of  Vero  Beach  normally  collects  garbage  from  commercial  customers  with
dumpsters one (1) to six (6) days per week depending on the level of service desired by
the customer. Collection from commercial customers is not performed on Christmas Day
(Monday, December 25).
Please contact City of Vero Beach Solid Waste at 772-978-5300 with any
